I have always had an interest in being able to provide instructional assignments for my students who are absent (for more than two consecutive days) and have missed classwork and was not about to receive a grade because they were out. Case in point, I have a student who was out this past week due to chronic headaches. Obviously, she has missed a lot of the lessons that was taught but I wondered how I could help serve her and mother and make her feel a part of what we were doing in class and not so behind. I began to think about using my teacher created website to upload assignments for her to complete for a grade. The student would be able to complete at her own convenience and pace.
With researching for this project, I came across reference texts that I was familiar with and gave insight that provided further information about what I wanted to explore. The tools I sued are definitely tied to teaching and learning as it will support learning by creating visual images for understanding and retention amongst this audience. Many students are visual learners and this cartoon will help reinforce and engage them in the lesson. Cartoons are a favorite amongst children. It teaches a lesson/topic in a sequence. With our efforts, we hope to promote learning.
I enjoyed learning about Richard Mayer’s multimedia principles as it has given me the proper tools to develop my instructional materials more effectively. The first principle in the Basic Principles of Multimedia Learning is the Multimedia Principle. It tells us that people learn better from words and pictures than words alone. The Signaling Principle tells us that people learn more deeply from a multimedia message when cues are added that highlight the critical aspects of the presented information. Following the Coherence Principle, it states that people learn more deeply from a multimedia message when extraneous material is excluded rather than included. I will try to always keep that in mind when creating my instructional materials for my students.

This assignment surely took me over 9 hours to create but it was well worth it as it will be beneficial for my students.

2. Learning Goal(s)
- My goal is to make learning accessible for my students online or at home.
- Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
- Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
- Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources.

Illustrative screenshots of my progress:
First, I had to come up with a couple of assignments for my students to complete. I decided to use Pixton for my students to create a cartoon/comic strip to show their understanding of the life cycle of a frog.
Then, I created an account with Pixton. Then I began to choose my layout. Next, choose your panel layout: I chose “Description Only”. Then, I created a Storyboard: I clicked on Basic. I chose a background: I chose the background that fit best with a frog’s environment both on land and in water. It took a lot time searching for the images that I could use. The placement of where everything would go was important. I then added images along with the captions. Creating the captions had to be thoughtful and have a flow to it. I create a "teacher/ travel guide“ that was taking the students on a field trip. Finishing”/ completing my classroom website is not complete but at least I have the bones on what I have the potential to create.
5. Toolset Story

6. Skillset Needed
The skills required to complete this project is patience, diligence, and a passion for educating students. The skills I lacked is not being familiar or totally comfortable with creating instructional activities with 21st Century technology. There are so many tech tools that I can use and create to make an engaged, 21st Century classroom. Many teachers, like myself, do not fully understand or been trained on comics-related research and visualization as a literacy skill. Many of us are missing out on another way to engage and reach our children. Graphic organizers can be used to teach more than reading. When students are taught to read and develop graphic organizers, they can also learn critical thinking, organization, and communication skills. Teachers have to do a lot of upfront modeling for the students to be successful. When students implement and complete this projects, they are evaluated when they showing mastery of the content and utilizing technology in the process. I look forward to creating more assignments such as this.
